What we do

Anna Gaynor House (AGH) is a HIQA registered purpose-built eighty-nine bedded residential unit providing a safe and comfortable living environment for those with high dependencies who require 24-hour nursing care. AGH is designed and resourced to meet the care needs of frail older people when their care needs can no longer be met in their own home.

Admission to Anna Gaynor House is by one of two referral pathways:

  • Supportive Care Beds (Formally Fast Track)
  • Nursing Home Support Scheme / NHSS (Fair Deal)

All residents are admitted under the care of a Consultant Geriatrician.

Supportive Care Beds (Formally Fast Track)

Which patients may be considered suitable for admission to a Supportive Care Bed?

  • Patients who are frail with an active progressive illness and an estimated prognosis of less than 6 months.
  • Older people who have palliative care needs that cannot be met in their own home.
  • Advance care planning with the patient and medical team must take place prior to referral.
  • Referrals are accepted from Consultants in Palliative Medicine and Consultant Geriatricians.

Supportive Care Bed charges

The charge applicable for a Supportive Care bed is based on the weekly income of the patient less approx. €49 per week, subject to a maximum weekly charge of approx. €180.

After 20 weeks funding will transfer to Nursing Home Support Scheme Funding (NHSS / Fair Deal) once the funding is released and when a bed becomes available.

Nursing Home Support Scheme / NHSS (Fair Deal)

Which patients may be considered suitable for admission to a Nursing Home Support Scheme bed?

Prospective residents who can be considered for admission are primarily those:

  • Who have secured NHSS / Fair Deal funding. You can apply for an NHSS bed in Anna Gaynor House (which is subject to an assessment for suitability to the unit)
  • Are over the age of 65
  • Who are dependent on nursing and medical care and for whom recovery to independent living is unlikely;
  • Who are in an advanced state of chronic or terminal illness
  • Who would benefit particularly from a palliative care approach.

Nursing Home Support Scheme bed charges

Charges are agreed as per financial assessments under the Nursing Home Support Scheme / NHSS (Fair Deal) and can be discussed with the Patient Accounts Team.
