Who is Admitted to Our Service?

Prospective patients/residents who can be considered for admission are primarily those:

  • Over the age of 65.
  • Who are dependent on nursing and medical care and for whom recovery to independent living is unlikely;
  • Who are in an advanced state of chronic or terminal illness; (Supportive Palliative Care)
  • Who have a prognosis of less than 6 months; (Supportive Palliative Care)
  • Who would benefit particularly from a palliative care approach; (Supportive Palliative Care)

Apart from the above category of patient, consideration may be given to people who are under 65 and in a high dependency category and for whom life expectancy is short. All patients admitted to the residential centre under either the Nursing Home Support Scheme or Palliative Care Level Two will be admitted under a Consultant Geriatrician.
