Why Support Us

Our Lady’s Hospice & Care Services was founded in 1879 and cares for more than 4,000 patients each year. We have two facilities in Harold’s Cross & Blackrock, with a third Hospice coming under our management in 2019 in Wicklow.

  • We are Ireland’s largest hospice, providing specialist care for people with a wide range of needs from rehabilitation to end of life care.
  • We support residents, patients and their families at a most difficult time in their lives.
  • All our care is provided free of charge on a needs, not means, basis.
  • We cover a catchment area of almost 1 million people across south Dublin and Wicklow.
  • With Ireland’s over-65 population expected to almost triple to 1.4 million over the next 30 years we are experiencing significant increases across both our inpatient care and community care.
  • Funds help provide frontline care but also deliver capital expansion projects.
  • We must raise over €4 million each year to make up the shortfall in HSE funding.
  • We appreciate all the support we get and are committed to spending all funds wisely.

New Specialist Palliative Care Unit

In April 2018 we opened a brand new 36 single room state-of-the-art Specialist Palliative Care Unit in Harold’s Cross. The Unit has the same number of beds as before, but each is now a single room, ensuite, with overnight accommodation facilities for a family member, opening out to a garden and courtyard area. Each room has been fitted out to the highest possible standard, ensuring comfort, dignity and peace of mind for patients and their families. 100% of the building costs of our new Specialist Palliative Care Unit (€13.6 million) was raised through fundraised income – a tangible outcome that will have major impact on the quality of end of life care for this, and the next, generation.
