Overview of the course

The aim of the Dublin Certificate in Evidence Based Joint Injection is to provide doctors (particularly general practitioners) and nurses with an opportunity to develop their theoretical knowledge in joint injection administration.

Through blended learning this module aims to:

  • Provide evidence-based recommendations around the principles, practice, and techniques for joint and soft tissue injection therapies for people with rheumatic musculoskeletal disease (RMD)
  • Prepare participants to expand their skills base with respect to the use of injection therapies for people with RMD
  • Advise participants to work within their respective scope of practice when administering prescribed injection therapies
  • Emphasise a person centred approach to healthcare delivery

This module is intended as an educational resource for nurses and doctors and does not constitute an assessment of clinical competence.

CPD credits:  10 ECTS, accredited by UCD

This course is Level 8 on the National Framework of Qualifications (NFQ)

 

How will I learn

This course will run over a period of 9 weeks, from 10 February to 7 April 2027. It will adopt a blended learning approach.

In-person classes will take place in the Education & Research Centre at Our Lady’s Hospice & Care Services in Harold’s Cross, Dublin 6W.

There will be 3 in-person days.

  • Day 1:     Wednesday 24 February 2027     9am – 2.30pm
  • Day 2:     Wednesday 3 March 2027            9am – 2.30pm
  • Day 3:     Wednesday 7 April 2027               9am – 2.30pm (final assessment)
    These dates are provisional.

In addition, there are:

  • 5 Online sessions, which are self-directed learning units
  • 1 Reading week
