Overview of the course
The aim of the Dublin Certificate in Evidence Based Dementia Care is to provide doctors, nurses and health and social care professionals with enhanced knowledge, skills and competence to provide person-centre and holistic care and support to people living with dementia, and their family and carers.
Participants will:
- Understand dementia as a syndrome and the presenting characteristics of the most common subtypes of dementia
- Explore the concept of person-centred care and personhood and how these concepts underpin holistic dementia care
- Gain an appreciation for the importance of effective interpersonal communication skills and how to apply person-centred communication strategies when caring for people who are living with dementia and their carers
- Better understand the evolving and changing evidence as a consequence of research conducted on people living with dementia
How you will learn
This course will adopt a blended learning approach over a period of 10 weeks, 24 March – 26 May 2027.
In-person classes will take place in the Education & Research Centre at Our Lady’s Hospice & Care Services in Harold’s Cross, Dublin 6W on the following dates:
- Day 1: Wednesday 24 March 2027
- Day 2: Wednesday 14 April 2027
- Day 3: Wednesday 26 May 2027 (assessment day)
