Community Reablement Unit, CRU
The Community Reablement Unit is an in-patient unit for frail people aged 65 years and older.
People under 65years and/or outside area can be considered by the Consultant in charge on a case by case basis.
The unit performs a Comprehensive Geriatric Assessment (CGA) and implements measures to maximize patient’s functional independence and mobility in an effort to maintain community living and avoid hospital admissions.
The CRU service is a Multidisciplinary (MDT) service that benefits the older person who may be struggling at home with mobility difficulties, joint problems, recurrent falls, cognitive issues or a recent functional decline in daily activities.
The average length of stay is 2-3 weeks with some patients requiring a longer length of stay in order to meet the individual goals set by the patient and the MDT.
CRU Service operates from Monday to Friday and closes every weekend. All patients must be discharged for the weekend.
