Community Rehabilitation Unit, CRU

The Community Rehabilitation Unit is an in-patient unit for frail people aged 65 years and older.

People under 65 years and/or outside area can be considered by the Consultant in charge on a case by case basis.

The unit performs a Comprehensive Geriatric Assessment (CGA) and implements measures to maximize patient’s functional independence and mobility in an effort to maintain community living and avoid hospital admissions.

The CRU service is a Multidisciplinary (MDT) service that benefits the older person who may be struggling at home with mobility difficulties, joint problems, recurrent falls, cognitive issues or a recent functional decline in daily activities.

The average length of stay is 2-3 weeks with some patients requiring a longer length of stay in order to meet the individual goals set by the patient and the MDT.
