Rheumatic & Musculoskeletal Disease Unit, RMDU

The mission of the Rheumatic and Musculoskeletal Disease Unit (RMDU) is to empower and enable individuals with rheumatic and musculoskeletal conditions to maintain or improve their quality of living, by addressing their health needs through interdisciplinary team care.

The RMDU at Our Lady’s Hospice & Care Services offers a unique service to people with chronic rheumatologic and musculoskeletal conditions requiring specialist medical management and rehabilitation.

We work with patients as a multidisciplinary team, led by consultant rheumatologists, and we provide disease and pain management, as well as symptom reconditioning. Typically, patients will attend the unit for between two to three weeks on an outpatient or day patient basis, during which time they will participate in an intensive programme tailored to their specific needs.

Our expertise spans fifty years, and today our specialists, across all disciplines, participate at a national level to improve care for patients with rheumatic and musculoskeletal disease. The RMDU at Our Lady’s Hospice & Care Services is a teaching unit for all disciplines and has close links to the acute hospitals in the area. Currently, we are managing around 700 admissions a year.

We are immensely proud of the service we provide and of our results.
