Visitors’ Information
- Visitors are always welcome, and there are no set visiting hours. Our doors are always open to family and close friends.
- If you wish to have visitors restricted, please bring this to the attention of the nursing staff and we will do our utmost to ensure same.
- We ask that you respect the privacy of others and that you limit the number visiting at any given time to a maximum of five people.
- Children are always welcome but must not be left unsupervised.
- Home pets are welcome to visit!
We do have limited access to an overnight room for family members. In general, this is only offered to those families whose loved ones are in the last days of their life. We can, on occasion, set up temporary beds or recliner chairs in patient rooms, if required. Longer term accommodation cannot be provided.
The Hospice is a smoke-free zone. We do, however, provide a small smoking room for patients’ use only. There are other designated smoking areas on the Hospice grounds for visitors.
There is a good bus service from the City Centre to Our Lady’s Hospice & Care Services.
Bus Routes: 9, 16, 49 and 54a.
Parking space is provided for visitors and staff. There is no charge for the use of these facilities.
A fully equipped hairdressing salon operates from the Palliative Care Unit and is available to patients, visitors and staff. The salon is open Tuesday to Friday from 10.00am to 5.00pm by appointment. The hairdresser will also visit ward units on request.
Patients are required to bring their own pyjamas, nightdresses, bed jackets, dressing gowns, slippers and toiletries. We provide and launder all bed linen and towels. If possible, arrangements should be made to launder patients’ personal clothing at home. However, if this is not possible, laundry services in the organisation can be availed of, but all clothing must be clearly marked. Locker/wardrobe facilities are available for personal day clothing, if required.
Letters and parcels are delivered to the wards on a daily basis. Patients can easily post letters and can contact their ward clerk in this regard. Only letters bearing a postage stamp will be mailed.
Phone calls can be put through to the main Hospice reception.

The teams there are happy to answer all visitor enquiries and will redirect your enquiry, if necessary.
Coffee Shop
The Hospice coffee shop is open to all relatives and visitors. Run by volunteers, it is open from 10.00am to 7.30pm daily.
Restaurant
Our restaurant provides snacks and a full meal service. It is open seven days a week (see opening times below). Family and friends can accompany patients to the restaurant where they can relax and enjoy each other’s company. The ward manager must be informed before a patient leaves the ward. The staff will always help families to celebrate special occasions such as birthdays and wedding anniversaries.
