The aim of the programme is to enhance the learner’s knowledge, skills and competence when providing person-centred holistic care and support to people living with dementia, and their family and carers.

1. Understand dementia as a syndrome and the presenting characteristics of the most common subtypes of dementia.
2. Discuss the concept of person-centred care and personhood and how these concepts underpin holistic dementia care.
3. Understand the importance of effective interpersonal communication skills and apply person centred communication strategies when caring for people living with dementia and their carers.

Support an understanding of the evolving and changing evidence as a consequence of research conducted on people living with dementia.
