Our Patient Service Volunteers support our team every single day of the year.

They offer an important social value and connection with our residents and patients. They also offer invaluable support complementing our overall quality of care.

Our Patient Service Volunteers support our team every single day of the year. They offer an important social value and connection with our residents and patients. They also offer invaluable support complementing our overall quality of care.

Our Patient Service Volunteers support across three key areas:

  • Social Engagement – Support with individual or group social activities with our patients or residents
  • Social Connecting – Support with visiting patients at home and assisting patients with basic IT needs to connect with loved ones
  • Services Support – Support with meet & greet, general admin supports, driving patients to and from the hospice, project work, supporting our wonderful gardens project

Current Patient Service Volunteer Opportunities:

  • Harold’s Cross – Mealtime companion – providing mealtime assistance for our patients or residents
  • Blackrock – Weekend and Bank Holiday Reception cover opportunities
  • Wicklow – Social Engagement Volunteer opportunities – supporting with individual or group social activities with our patients or residents

How to apply to become a Patient Service Volunteer:

We are truly grateful to all our volunteers who give tirelessly of their time and energies to support our patients and their loved ones. To ensure that we select the right volunteers for the right positions, we have an application process as we wish to ensure that all our volunteers have a positive and rewarding experience with us. This application process aims to ensure the safety of those we care for and support, and to also give our potential volunteers the time to find the right volunteering opportunities for them. As part of the process we also require Garda vetting and reference checking which we will secure on your behalf.

How to apply to become a Patient Service Volunteer with Our Lady's Hospice & Care Services please:

Complete the volunteer application form

Nominate two referees for reference check (included in the volunteer application form)

Complete the Garda vetting application

Step 4

Return the completed volunteer application form and the Garda vetting form to the volunteer department via email; volunteerdept@olh.ie or post to OLH&CS

After both the Garda vetting and reference checks have been completed, potential
volunteers will be invited to an informal interview so that we can explain the role fully,
answer any questions that may arise and to ensure that the potential volunteering
position is an suitable fit
