I am so deeply grateful to each and every one of you who donated to my Hospice appeal.
Your heartfelt kindness has helped to raise over €85.000 to date to support the 36 new single bedrooms at Harold’s Cross.
I am overwhelmed by your generosity, your kindness and your support. Well done to you all!
I went to visit and have a tour of the new bedrooms and facilities with my husband Brian just before Christmas. We were so amazed by what we saw that I wanted to share the experience with everyone who donated to my appeal.
Every detail has been researched and thought through from spacious wide corridors, lovely common areas for families and a soothing colour palette throughout.
The bedrooms are incredibly spacious and so well planned the we felt they are beyond state of the art – they have lighting that self adjusts and we saw first-hand the armchairs that turn into beds so a family member can stay overnight with you.
It’s not just the larger details that make such a difference even smaller details like medical sockets – which usually are across a wall above you when you’re in bed – they are discreetly placed down a side panel beside the bed for easier access which is less intrusive.
Recessed seating and floor to ceiling glass windows and doors create beautiful light filled rooms with views. Each room has access to a private patio garden that leads to a larger shared communal garden between 6 rooms.
I know just how much that means to be able to sit just outside your room, in the fresh air and take in the day without being confined to being indoors all the time – it really makes such a difference.
I can honestly say that the hospice and everyone who has worked and supported the creation of these stunning rooms has absolutely ensured that respect for a patient’s dignity and comfort is paramount.
So please all of you take a bow and be proud that you are part of the reason it’s there.
Thank you so much again for reading my story, for sharing it with others and creating something that will support so many people who need the hospice’s loving and expert care now and in the future.
