Join us this autumn for a real treat: Trek the stunning Dalmatian Coast in Croatia and help raise vital funds for Our Lady’s Hospice & Care Services

Following the success of our 2018 tour to Sicily and the Aeolian Archipelago, our 2019 trek will be another Island-hopping adventure… this time around the stunning Dalmatian Coastline of Croatia’s National parkland. Our 2019 Trek to Croatia will take place from 12th October to 19th October inclusive.

So get set to see the beautiful Krka National Park, enjoy trekking along the most picturesque rivers, take a memorable boat ride through a canyon passing cascading falls and experience an exciting mixture of modern buildings, UNESCO palaces, old city walls and beautiful promenades, all set against a spectacular mountainous backdrop.

This is one trip you really don’t want to miss!

This promises to be a truly spectacular trip. The ask is similar to previous years: we need you to raise a minimum of €3,300 in return for which we can promise you a once-in-a-lifetime experience, with transfers, accommodation, food, guides included so all you need to do is bring your walking boots and a positive attitude to have some great fun while raising vital funds for the front line services of Our Lady’s Hospice & Care Services.

To help you along the way, once again this year we will be offering you a €200 discount from your total for every additional friend you bring along. Don’t forget – the Fundraising Team here in the Hospice will be on-hand to support your efforts, whether that be through social media, letters of verification, posters and flyers, collection buckets or sponsorship cards. We’re also full of ideas on how you can raise funds. Just a few examples of the best fundraising activities from last year were as follows:

  • Bag packing
  • Church gate collections
  • Pub quizzes
  • Raffles
  • Sponsored walks
  • Car boot sales

But if you’re new to fundraising, don’t worry, we’re here to help, and we’d be happy to help you plan your activities and make sure you have everything you need.

We do hope you’ll join us this year for what promises to be an amazing trek.

See below more details about the Croatia Trek 2019:

Day 1 Arrival

We fly into Split airport and take the short transfer to our resort (a three star hotel in Trogir/Čiovo) for dinner and overnight.

Day 2 Brač Island

We take a morning passenger ferry to the island of Brač. It’s the biggest island among the central Dalmatian islands and is a so called island of nature and beauty. Great hiking day to the highest summit (778 metres) of all 1185 Croatian islands! You can expect a breath-taking view of all the South-Dalmatian islands, the mainland and as far as Italy, if the weather permits! Dinner and overnight back in Trogir.

Day 3 Krka National Park to Split

After breakfast, we will spend our first day in the beautiful Krka National Park. Created by the Krka River, and described as the most picturesque river in Croatia, this stunningly beautiful national park can only be described as a limestone phenomenon. We start off by exploring the park on foot before taking a memorable boat ride through the Krka canyon passing cascading falls to the spectacular Roski Slap. In the afternoon we drive to Split, Croatia’s second largest city and known as Spalato in Italian. This atmospheric city, located on the Dalmatian Coast, is an exciting mixture of modern buildings, UNESCO palaces, old city walls, a beautiful promenade (the Riva) and a spectacular mountainous backdrop. More of a living museum, the UNESCO heart of Split or the Diocletian’s Palace, is one of the most imposing Roman ruins in Europe and is more of a place to wander rather than plan a rigid visit! A melting pot of cafes and restaurants, alongside a military fortress, winding back streets, an imperial residence and fortified town, the Diocletian’s Palace is hardly a palace but a living museum! Along with the Cathedral, town museum and cosmopolitan promenade, Split is a beautiful town with a breath taking backdrop and sweeping sea views. After regrouping in the evening, you’ll head out to one of the many fantastic restaurants that fill this town.

Day 4 Hvar Island

This morning you will embark a public ferry boat to the island of Hvar. The island of Hvar is a unique fusion of the luxurious Mediterranean nature and the remarkable cultural and historical heritage. You will walk along emerald coves and white pebble beaches laced with the scent of pine trees to the town of Milna. Then the trail takes us from the coast through rugged terrain to Malo Grablje, an abandoned stone village that preserves important examples of Croatian architecture dating from the 9th through the 12th centuries.

Throughout the centuries of rich and turbulent history, people on Hvar cultivated their vineyards with great skill and care, blessed with the lushness of the Mediterranean and after a light lunch we will drive on towards Jelsa, a small town with a long winemaking tradition. Returning to Hvar for the night, we will be able to check out the town’s stunning square and 16th century theatre. Hvar’s hilltop fortress will reward you with full-blown views over Hvar’s gorgeous harbour.

 Day 5 Mljet National Park

Today we are sailing towards national park Mljet. The northern part of the island is covered with a dense, green forest. The Park has two beautiful salt water lakes, one with a 14 century monastery on a tiny island. We will explore the Park on foot, enjoy a swim in the warm waters of the lakes and take the short boat ride to St Mary’s Island and monastery. In afternoon private boat transfer back to Korčula. Overnight in Korčula.

Day 6 Korčula Island and St Elias Oeak

After breakfast we’ll take a boat transfer to the village of Orebic, which will set us up for another of the coast’s great hikes. Today’s loop hike takes us to the summit of Sveti Ilija (St. Elias), noted for panoramic views. We will descend via ancient paths past sensational churches, vineyards and unbelievable villas. The wonderful views of the island of Korcula are certain to delight. We will return to our hotel in time to explore the town of Korčula.

 Day 7 Dubrovnik

Our trek would not be complete without a trip Dubrovnik and after breakfast we take the ferry there to embark on a walking tour of Dubrovnik’s old town, accompanied by a local guide. The Old Town of Dubrovnik is a UNESCO heritage site surrounded by ramparts and fortresses, is a treasure of architectural and cultural

masterpieces and is very well preserved. You will visit the Franciscan Church and Monastery that houses the 3rd oldest pharmacy in Europe, Rector’s Palace, The Cathedral with its Treasury housing the relics of St Blaise, St Blaise’s Church, and of course the 1940m long City Walls! You will have plenty of time to explore this beautiful location before spending the night here.
