With expert international speakers, this exciting one day conference will explore the increasingly recognised area of self-care and compassion in healthcare. Speakers will focus on individual needs and how organisations can support them. It will highlight the importance of reflection and resilience and enable participants to develop vital skills in this important area.
We are delighted to welcome Dr. Michael Kearney, the internationally renowned palliative care expert, speaker and author who will provide the morning session. In the afternoon we are honoured to have Professor Philip Larkin, of UCD and President of the European Association for Palliative Care speaking on compassion, a subject on which he has researched and written extensively.

Prog: 1 day Conference; Lectures and 2 elective workshops (3 options)
Venue: Education & Research Centre, Our Lady’s Hospice & Care Services.

Interactive skills workshops will be facilitated in morning and afternoon by senior staff of Our Lady’s Hospice & Care Services including Dr Joan Cunningham, Medical Director and Ms Geraldine Tracey, Manager Blackrock Hospice (Schwartz Rounds), Dr Ursula Bates, Head of Psychology (Mindfulness) and by Ms Karen Brennan, founder of Self Care for Carers whose organisation has been leading in the provision of healthy caregiving strategies to OLH&CS (and many other health care organisations) for over 5 years.

The day will open with an introduction from our CEO, Ms Audrey Houlihan. Following the lectures and workshops there will be a panel discussion where our speakers will be joined by Ms Juanita Guidera from the HSE and Ms Mary Kirwan, Head of Human Resources in OLH&CS. In their individual way they will address how practices and techniques explored can be encouraged and promoted within and across health care organisations. The day will close with an address from Ms Patricia Hallahan, Director of Education, Research and Training, OLH&CS.
